Software Asset Management (SAM) Program Services

ISG’s SAM Program Services are a managed service offering comprising, consistent with the ITIL definition, “the day-to-day processes necessary for the effective management, control and protection of software assets throughout all stages of their lifecycle.”  Specifically, this includes assessing, tracking and reporting of software license entitlements, deployment & utilization, license expirations and renewal cycles, and risk.  These services include alignment and coordination with client processes for planning, acquisition, deployment, management, and retirement that are performed by other departments.

Software Compliance Risk Assessment Services

ISG’s Software Compliance Risk Assessment Services comprise comprehensive analysis of the State’s and/or Department’s license entitlements, as defined in license agreements, ordering documents, master agreements and other contractual documentation, and performing discover activities to determine how the in-scope software products have been deployed and used, to determine whether there are oversubscriptions (more licenses than are being used in accordance with the entitlements) or a potential compliance gap, where licenses are being used outside of the entitled quantities and specific entitlements allowed under the applicable agreements.

Software Audit Preparation Services

ISG’s Software Compliance Risk Assessment Services comprise comprehensive analysis of the State’s and/or Department’s license entitlements, as defined in license agreements, ordering documents, master agreements and other contractual documentation, and performing discover activities to determine how the in-scope software products have been deployed and used, to determine whether there are oversubscriptions (more licenses than are being used in accordance with the entitlements) or a potential compliance gap, where licenses are being used outside of the entitled quantities and specific entitlements allowed under the applicable agreements.

Software Compliance Audit Defense and Mitigation Services

ISG’s Software Audit Defense and Mitigation Services include Software Compliance Risk Assessment Services (defined above) and additionally include advising  the internal State or Department team with regard to recommended response to audit requests and questions, reviewing and commenting on draft and final audit reports, assisting the State or Department team in composing responses to the software publishers, and supporting discussions and communications as part of the audit resolution and negotiation process.

Software Purchase and Renewal Financial Analysis Services

ISG’s service is based on driving value through license optimization, which then forms the basis for commercial and pricing negotiation.  Dependent upon the specific software products being analyzed, ISG utilizes the appropriate tools and processes to 1) analyze utilization vs. consumption on the appropriate licensing metric (user/server/core/transaction/etc.) and identify where existing licenses can be deployed more efficiently across the entire estate to reduce the overall number of licenses required.  We bring a detailed understanding of the specific rights and usage entitlements of each license type and how to ensure compliance and prevent audit risk.  For some products, we use proprietary scripts and tools for discovery and analysis, develop an optimization roadmap, determine the net requirement, identify whether there are any licenses that can be terminated (with corresponding maintenance), confirm any additional requirements that need to be purchased, and then develop and execute an overall negotiation strategy for the net new requirements.  Our typical savings ranges are industry leading.

Pricing

ISG services are delivered utilizing a combination of proprietary data and tools in addition to expert advisory, and are priced on the basis of the specific scope being addressed on either a fixed-fee or incentive fee structure.
